Have You Dined at the Most Haunted, and Oldest, Restaurant in the USA in New England?
It's almost the season for spooky things, right?
Whether you believe in ghosts or not does not matter. Whether you believe a place is haunted or not does not matter, either. Some places just feel...creepy.
Believers in spirits and ghosts will say some locations are haunted. Those who do not believe will not pinpoint the reason a location is "creepy", but will often acknowledge a creepiness aspect.
USA Today came out with a list of the top 10 haunted places in the United States.
So whether you believe in ghosts or not, these are the top 10 creepiest locations (which may or may not actually be haunted).
One of those locations was right here in New England.
This is the White Horse Tavern, the oldest restaurant in the entire United States and the 10th oldest in the entire world, according to the restaurant's website.
The White Horse Tavern, located in Newport, Rhode Island, was named the #6 most haunted location in the entire country, according to a USA Today article.
In 1652, the White Horse Tavern was constructed as a two-story, two-room residency for Francis Brinley. However, it opened for business in 1673 as a comfortable tavern and meeting place of the Colony’s General Assembly, Criminal Court, and City Council, according to the webiste.
A USA Today article claims:
The bar reportedly is home to an elderly gentleman ghost, who died while renting a room upstairs in the 1720s, and a small girl who is often heard crying. No one knows their identities.
Would you eat here?
