Why Was Ben & Jerry’s Considering Changing the Name of This Ice Cream?
Can we agree some words have more than one meaning?
The recent hullabaloo over whether Ben & Jerry's should change the name of their Hazed & Confused ice cream because it somehow promotes bullying has left me a little dazed and confused. I am in no way intending to diminish the seriousness of hazing and bullying, quite the opposite. By targeting something that is wholly unrelated to bullying, these well-intentioned anti-bullying advocates undermine their mission by being perceived less seriously. The saying that all publicity is good publicity? It isn't true. Those promoting serious causes need to steer clear of frivolous headline grabbing tactics, so I hope weathermen aren't targeted next because of predictions of hazy sunshine.
