Here’s One Reason To Quit Smoking
Today, we remember our friend Stan Edwards
Earlier today, we posted a tribute to our friend Stan Edwards.
Here is my take on Stan and what happened to him regarding his condition.
First off, Quit smoking.
If you don't read on, that's fine. But if you're a full-time smoker....at least read that and take it into consideration.
Here's why I say that. Nine years ago I moved over to full-time on-air on WOKQ, coming from 102.1/105.3 The Shark (during my first go-around here.)
The position opened up after long-time personality Stan Edwards was diagnosed with a cancer that ravaged his throat after years of smoking. Stan was rendered unable to work and retired early from a long career on the air.
This afforded me the opportunity to move into overnights. At that time, I was a smoker. No secret. I smoked in the car, at home, at work, at events....everywhere.
He knew I was coming on board in his departure and was nothing but welcoming and encouraging. He told me "I'm happy for you, you deserve it." But it was what he said to me on his last day here that I still playback in my head.
"Quit smoking."
I can still hear him saying it.
If you know me, you know that I occasionally sneak a smoke here and there. I'm not proud of it. But today I remain smoke-free on a day to day basis. I think about Stan from time to time and I'm sad to read that, all these years later, his journey with us ended last night.
Stan was a great guy and a great broadcaster. We'll miss you, friend.
