Acadia National Park in Maine Named One of the Country’s Most Crowded Parks

Normally, when we think about our national parks, we think of wide open spaces that are largely devoid of people.  Sure, you expect to see people around key landmarks (like Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park) and important facilities (like ranger stations and entry gates).  Other than that, though, you don't expect to see many people.

Of course, if you are a frequent summer visitor to Acadia National Park, you may have a completely different opinion.

It has gotten so bad that you now have to reserve a time to make a trip to the summit of Cadillac Mountain.

There is actual research to back this up, too.

Acadia National Park One of the Country's Most Overcrowded

According to new research put out by Hard Rock Bet, Acadia National Park was recently named the third most overcrowded park in the nation.

The 77 square mile park welcomed 2,684,000 visitors in 2025.  That's just about 35,000 visitors per square mile.  That makes it 5.8 times more crowded than the national average.

It shouldn't be a big surprise.  In the last 40 years the park has seen a massive growth in visitors.  In 1985, there were about 1.22 million visitors.  That's compared to the aforementioned 2.68 million guests in 2025.
