Food Website Says Maine Restaurant As One Of The Best In The U.S.

They also make lists, which we love, so when it came down to choosing the most best restaurant in each state, we just HAD to know what their choice for Maine was.

Nailing down the best restaurant in every state is no easy task. Every state has a variety of dining options, simpler fare, to Michelin starred fine dining restaurants.

Lovefood based their choices on user reviews, awards and accolades, and their very lucky staff, who get to travel across the country to sample it first hand.

Lobster ‘fresh from trap to table’ has made Shannon’s Unshelled, an eatery in Boothbay, the best of the best.

Lobster rolls are the main draw at Shannon's. Whether it’s served plain and chilled with warm sea salt and garlic butter on the side, grilled with Cheddar and American cheese on fancy sourdough, or deliciously deep fried.

The little lobster shack that could, has been cranking them out since 2014.

The menu at Shannon's Unshelled, features Maine's best seafood, including lobster rolls, clam strips, onion rings, and seaweed salad.

The owner, Shannon Schmelzer, explains the history of the restaurant:

“I was working at a local restaurant during the summer of 2013, when my father came in to pay me his weekly visit and to have dinner. He looked at me and asked “Where can you buy a good lobster roll in Boothbay Harbor? And so, Shannon’s Unshelled was born!"

Of course, this is a seasonal business, but they are open through the holiday season, making it a perfect stop after visiting Gardens Aglow, at the nearby, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

Thursday 3:30–6:30 PM
Friday 3:30–6:30 PM
Saturday 3:30–6:30 PM
Sunday 3:30–6:30 PM

Those hours will expand, when the Gardens Aglow event begins.
