Fresh snow is always the best in Maine to see what mystery tracks are around.

I think I recognized the raccoon tracks, but it was the little tracks and the tunneling tracks that had me scratching my head to figure out what they were. These creatures are all around us, but only with fresh snow do we have proof. Like what the heck is this from?

These tracks certainly didn't stick around long with all the snow storms and falling snow from surrounding trees. I feel lucky I must have timed it just right to catch these tracks. The S curve really makes me wonder what the heck that is.

You gotta be a pretty light creature to not fall through the amount of snow Maine got

I'm always surprised at the amount of wildlife that is in some pretty urban areas in Southern Maine. Working in Portland for the past 30 years, I've seen everything from fox, bunny, possum, skunk, deer, wild turkey, and raccoon (a whole family) in a city setting. The following tracks were made just outside of Portland, but still, not in a remote area.

Portland is a dog city, so I see lots of doggy prints. But these little guys. I felt like I had seen something out of a Disney movie. If you have any ideas about the snow prints and your thoughts, let me know! I'd love to figure out what made these cool designs and tunnels!
