Maine Ranks High on List of Best States for Summer Road Trips
This should come as no surprise to those of us who live in the great state of Maine, but it's still cool to be at the top of the list for something. WalletHub has released its ranking of all 50 states, determining which ones are the best for summer road trips.
Having grown up in Maine, the number of summer road trips we took was exactly one, and we went to Prince Edward Island, Canada. It felt a lot like Maine, and I would have much rather have gone to Disney World.
Maine has a lot to offer summer tourists, including those on summer road trips. But what about Maine made it rank so high?
WalletHub compared the 50 states across three key dimensions: costs, safety, and activities. Costs are obvious. It's what you spend on your road trip. Safety plays a factor with the quality of roads, number of traffic fatalities, and population density. Activities are things like amusement and national parks.
Taking all that into account, Maine ranked ninth among the best states for summer road trips, getting #29 place for costs, #1 for safety, and #30 for activities.
How did our New England neighbors rank? We smoked 'em. New Hampshire ranked 35th, Massachusetts 37th, Vermont 46th, Connecticut 48th, and Rhode Island 49th.

I'm surprised that we are so far ahead of all our New England neighbors. Time to up your game, New England. We aren't called "Vacationland" for nothing!
