I'm always excited to get mail, but this was very odd.

After receiving The Great Controversy in the mail recently, I thought it was weird. After doing a bit of digging, it appears I'm not the only one who was a little weirded out. And bonus, a Mainer wrote it!

I'm a fan of books, and a free one in the mail seemed like a pretty cool thing. Unfortunately, the conservative religious book is not my cup of tea.

What is The Great Controversy?

According to Wikipedia, it's about good versus evil,

Jesus Christ and Satan, as played out over the millennia from its start in heaven, to its final end when the remnant who are faithful to God will be taken to heaven at the Second Advent of Christ, and the world is destroyed and recreated.

This was originally published in the 1850s. So not really beach reading material.

The Great Controversy is appearing in people's mailboxes across the country, and was written by a Mainer.

Ellen G. White was named among the 100 most significant Americans of all time, and was born in Gorham, Maine, in 1827. She claimed to have had over 2,000 visions and dreams from God.

The goal is to get The Great Controversy book to every Mainer.

According to News Center Maine, Dwight Hall, CEO of Remnant Publications in Michigan (where the book is printed and distributed), said that the goal is to get this book to every resident in Maine. The books are funded through donations and sent in mass quantities nationwide. About 75% of all Maine homes have had this book pop up in their mailbox. Did you get yours?
