From towering 4,000-foot summits to stunning coastal gems, Maine’s mountains offer something for every adventurer. Whether you’re seeking a challenging climb, sweeping 360-degree views, or picturesque terrain, Maine’s mountains provide it all.

No matter your skill level, these peaks promise an unforgettable experience, making Maine a must-visit destination for hiking, trekking, and nature exploration.
What Mountains are Mainers' Favorites?
With mountains being such a big part of life here in Maine, I became curious about which peaks are the most popular. So, we decided to ask our listeners which ones truly stand out in the Pine Tree State. What are the hikes, climbs, and jaunts that Mainers love the most?
Is it the well-known peaks—or the hidden, off-the-beaten-path gems?
I knew some favorites would make the list—and they did. It was no surprise to see Katahdin, Cadillac, and Sugarloaf included; these are all iconic and highly popular mountains.

However, there were a few surprises—especially the Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary.
This wonderfully diverse list includes peaks from the northwest, Baxter State Park, and even coastal and lake-based mountains. It’s a true Maine mash-up.
As proud as I am to have climbed a few of these, it’s exciting to see so many others that have piqued (no pun intended) my interest.
