You can generally find soup or a sandwich on every single restaurant menu across the country. But when you find a place where it hits right, you almost don't want to share the secret.

But you can also tell when the secret is officially out. A clear indication of that is when a national publication like MSN tries their hand at naming the best neighborhood soup and sandwich shop in every state.

Their choice for Maine? An absolute gem in Portland called The Local Press. People throughout the city love it but are reluctant to shout out from the rooftops in fear it becomes a destination. Based on MSN's article from Tempo 247, it's about to become one for visitors to Portland.

The Local Press opened their doors in 2012 at 276 Woodford Street in Portland and haven't looked back. It's actually a bit of an unconventional setup. On one side of the building, you have a take-out counter where you can grab some of their delicious food. On the other side, you have a legit sit-down restaurant fitted with a bar and beer on tap.

Their paninis are made fresh-to-order featuring Boar's Head meats. They have a consistent menu of classic neighborhood favorites with some seasonal favorites making an appearance from time to time.

But don't sleep on the soup, either. While MSN's article was all about sandwiches, The Local Press has some of the most craveable soup you'll find anywhere in Portland.

The Local Press is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am until 6pm and Saturdays from 11am until 4pm.
