New Hampshire Man Hides $26,000 Gold Statue in New England Woods
If you've ever wanted to grab yourself some free publicity, just hide something valuable in the woods and tell people to go find it.
That's what ace video game designed and developer Jason Rohrer has done. According to Boston 25 News, his latest video game venture is an attempt to reimagine and ignite the 'treasure hunt' genre. And he's doing just that by hiding actual treasure at an undisclosed location in the New England woods.
Players Must Join the Game to Win
The game itself is called "Project Skydrop". An idea that came about when Jason Rohrer when thinking about a video game format that has gone dormant. Treasure hunting came to mind. Players must join the game with a required entry fee of $20.
For those that enjoy Pokemon Go, there is some elements of hide-and-seek to Project Skydrop. Each day, players get a notification at the same time narrowing down the search area for the grand prize.
That grand prize is a $25,000 gold statue. Rohrer claims it's a legit gold statue and it's a prize worthy of a terrific and knowledgable treasure hunter.
Project Skydrop Has an End Date
On October 10, there will be a winner of the treasure hunt, no questions asked. Each day that passes, the hints given narrow the scope and focus the treasure hunters on where to look for the elusive gold statue. It's possible that someone finds it before the last clue is released.
The attention and praise Project Skydrop has received in a short amount of time have given Rohrer and co-developer Tom Bailey hope that the treasure hunt format is only just beginning. Their next venture could be a nationwide hunt. Perhaps even global.
Just remember, there's no high score to this game. Just money and bragging rights.
