2 New Hampshire Towns Made List of ‘Most Affordable’ in New England
It's hard to believe that any place in New England is "affordable," especially if you're shopping for a place to live.
However, two New Hampshire towns made the Top 20 list in all of New England, according to moneyinc.com.
Let's take a look.
Exeter, New Hampshire Affordable?
Moneyinc.com said that Exeter, New Hampshire, is described as "very walkable" with a score of 78 out of 100.
I'm not sure I would agree with that, except if you are a student at Phillips Exeter Academy. In that case, yes, Exeter is a great walking town.
Exeter is a Beautiful New England Town
Not only do students have one of the most beautiful campuses in the country filled with things to do, they have one of the most charming downtown location filled with shops, restaurants and natural scenery to please everyone.

Locals, however, and you can correct me if you think I'm wrong, wouldn't consider it a walking town. I wouldn't. You drive in (parking downtown is awful), and you get your order from Laney and Lu's and you drive out.
Exeter is number 20 on the list of 20.
Somersworth, New Hampshire
Somersworth ranks a little higher on the list, coming in a number 9 as the 'most affordable' in New England, and here are some of the reasons why.
- Money, Inc. cites the median house cost in Somersworth as $380,908 and the median rental at $1,850.
- Somersworth also gets a good 'walkability score' of 79 out of 100. Somersworth does have easy access to public transportation, so I can see why it scored high.
- One of the things that I love about Somersworth, and I've loved this place since I moved here decades ago, is The Works Health Club. The Works has an indoor and outdoor pool. My son and I used to go quite a bit when we lived in Dover. It gave us both a place to be healthy and social rather than sit in front of the TV.
- Somersworth median home cost, according to moneyinc., is $380,908 and the median rental is $1,850, the same as Exeter.
- There is a huge Walmart in Somersworth, just off High Street with plenty of parking.
The article also states that the median household income in Somersworth is $66,663.
