When I think about growing up in Nashua, New Hampshire, I think about how lucky I was to have such iconic restaurants like the Green Ridge Turkey Farm, The Modern and Roland's Family Restaurant in that same city.

These were the places were known for their homemade, old-fashioned recipes that "stuck to your ribs."

The Modern Restaurant was the "fancy" place that kids got to go to sometimes.  The menu items included ham and chicken croquettes, salisbury steak, chicken livers and country style pork sausage.

Amazing food that I still miss today.

Green Ridge Turkey Farm, Daniel Webster Highway, Nashua

The Green Ridge Turkey farm was the only place, outside of my house at Thanksgiving, that you could get a turkey dinner with all the fixings.  Seriously, when I was growing up in Nashua, that's what I was convinced of.

I didn't know how my Mother got the turkey on Thanksgiving, but I thought that somehow she convinced Green Ridge Turkey Farm to give up one of their birds.  She WAS magic, after all.

Roland's Family Restaurant, Kinsley Street, Nashua

Roland's was in my neck of the woods.  I rarely went there, however, because my parents owned Pine Street Market, just up the road.  Roland's also had a store attached to the restaurant, so they were "kind of" our competition.

Roland's made good, simple food, including the best tuna sandwiches around, but don't tell my Mother.  She's dead now, so you'd have to have psychic powers to tell her anyway.

Ella knows I'm kidding anyway.  She made the best everything.

Why am I crying.  Maybe because all these places were part of my childhood.
