Leah James Lombardi, weighing in at 8 pounds, 7 ounces, was the first baby born in Boston at Massachusetts General Hospital.

She and her family may receive a lot of prizes.

This is the first time since 2015, according to WBZ News, that Massachusetts General Hospital gets to boast that they have the first baby in Boston born in 2025.

The mother, Jessica Lombardi was in labor for just 9 minutes, then Leah was born, weighing in at 8 pounds, 7 ounces, according to the news station. Nine MINUTES!

The parents heard a crowd cheering in the hallway after she was born and the family's nurse came in said that Leah was the first baby born in the whole city.

Michael Lombardi, the baby's father, said that he was told sometimes there are scheduled c-sections so the baby can be the first one by design, according to the news station.  Michael said that he thought that was cheating and that shouldn't count.

The news station reported that Michael and Jessica Lombardi also have another daughter, Logan.

When asked how she felt about the baby, mom Jessica said, "It's amazing. The best feeling in the world," according to the news station.

Here's What the First Baby in Boston Could Receive

I always thought the first baby of the year got all kinds of prizes, but that's not exactly the case.

According to rd.com, there are a whole bunch of things that the family and the baby could receive:

  • The hospital may give a gift basket filled with essentials like diapers, bottles, gift cards, wipes, etc.
  • Local restaurants may give gift cards
  • Personalized everything.  When you have a birthdate of January 1, it's going to be pretty easy to remember your birthdate.
  • Fame for at least 15 minutes.

The best prize, by far, is a healthy baby.  Cheers to the Lombardi family!
