New Hampshire Homeland Security and Emergency Management Team Heads to Florida to Help With Hurricane Milton
It is very hard to hear the news coming out of Florida about Hurricane Milton.
The reports coming in from various news sources are saying either category 4 or 5. Either way, the storm is extremely dangerous and the State of Florida is going to need help with recovery.
A team of 5 people from the NH Dept. of Safety's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management set off for Florida on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 to help with Hurricane Milton.
It is coming only two weeks from the damage done by Hurricane Helene. Florida is in a State of Emergency and New Hampshire is sending help.
According to a Press Release, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu said,
"These emergency management professionals from New Hampshire will provide much-needed relief and support to the teams in Florida already working around the clock. In addition to these individuals and members of the New Hampshire National Guard who have deployed, we stand prepared to provide whatever assistance possible to the communities impacted by Hurricane Milton. We will continue to monitor the situation and remain in contact with our partners. Our prayers are with Florida.
Florida State of Emergency
Florida Governor DeSantis declared a State of Emergency ahead of Hurricane Milton, according to tallahassee.com. Doing so allows the state to coordinate help and cut through the red tape.
The deployment is part of a National contract that provides disaster relief when the Declaration is made. The help can come in the form of human help or products and supplies needed.
The New Hampshire Department of Safety Commissioner Robert L. Quinn said.
“This deployment reaffirms our commitment to solidarity and service. I wish our team safety throughout their travels and am grateful for their willingness to serve those who need our help.”
The press release said anyone who has questions about the team should contact Lt. Col. Gregory Heilshorn at gregory.d.heilshorn.mil@army.mil.
Sending prayers to Florida.
