My friend and yours, Aaron Lapierre and I were going to get lunch recently.  We had made plans to meet at a popular restaurant in Rochester, New Hampshire, but sadly, we were too late.  Mitchell Hill Barbeque is now closed.

According to Strafford County Community News Facebook page, the owner said that families are struggling.  He also cited a parking issue downtown and he knows "the city is looking at monetizing parking."

In a related comment on the Facebook page, there are other reasons why:

  • Other businesses are "off" considerably from this time last year.
  • The building the restaurant was in was sold and the new owners wanted them to stay until the Spring.  They decided not to take them up on the proposal to stay.
  • The owners are getting older and it is a lot of work to manage both sides of the business due to the increased catering business.

I wanted to make sure I could still get that delicious BBQ, so I called the owner, Bob Benoit.  He did, in fact, confirm that the catering business is still alive and well.  As a matter of fact, that part of the business has sky-rocketed.

Good news that we can still get Mitchell Hill Barbeque food, but only on the catering side.  I didn't ask him specifically what was on the catering menu, but it's a pretty good assumption that many of the mouth watering ribs that we know and love will be available.

You can still contact Bob and his wife for catering jobs at 603-332-2537.

Their website is still up and running, but Bob said they were going to re-do that to reflect the catering business.
