Hi. It's me. I'm the one that's scared.

I know it's a ridiculous fear (is it?), but ever since I heard about sinkholes, I've had this fear that the Earth could swallow me up at any moment.

Probably because IT CAN, and it's happened multiple times in New Hampshire.

Remember this New Hampshire Sinkhole from 2015?

It was in August 2015, and anyone who lives here in New Hampshire knows that 93 North in the summer is brutal traffic on a good day.

Many people drive that highway to get to the Lakes Region, and the bad traffic is not only on the weekends.  There is plenty to do on Lake Winnipesaukee on weekdays to bring both residents and tourists alike to drive that highway.

Can you imagine how it was with this ginormous sinkhole?

Not only did these people in 2015 have to worry about the traffic, but I'll bet that they worried about sinkholes too.

Just take a look at the huge sinkhole in Concord, right on the highway.

In 2017, this New Hampshire sinkhole swallowed a car.

Did you read that?  A sinkhole swallowed a car in Manchester, New Hampshire. Terrifying.

There was a water main break, which can cause havoc on the roads anyway, but this time, the hole was big enough to take a car.

Water main breaks do happen from time to time from a variety of things like flushing out fire hydrants, according to this article from the City of Dover.

Imagine if your car went in the hole.

In 2023, this road in Hillsboro just opened up.

As you can see from the video, this sinkhole was because of heavy rain in Hillsboro, New Hampshire.

You may think you're in charge, but it's Mother Nature.

Don't mess with her.

Sinkholes happen in New Hampshire, but at least we're not Florida.

Florida seems to be a hotbed for sinkholes, so I guess we're lucky in New Hampshire? Maybe?

You might remember the story of Jeffrey Bush who, in 2013, was sleeping in his bed just outside of Tampa, Florida, and the earth opened up and swallowed him.  He never saw it coming, and his body was never recovered.

Remember this Geico ad featuring a talking pothole?

If you think I'm being irrational or maybe you share the same fear, let me know. Who knows, maybe there will be a new huge sinkhole in the Granite State for this year.
