🔴 Police responded around 9 p.m. to Low Street in Newburyport

A pedestrian was struck and killed near Port Plaza in Newburyport Saturday night.

City Marshal Mark Murray said the individual was hit around 9 p.m. on Low Street by a driver who remained at the scene. A photo and video shows an GMC Denali with a New Hampshire plate behind yellow police tape near the crash scene.

The pedestrian was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport where they were pronounced dead. Marshall did not disclose the circumstances of the crash nor the identities of the driver or victim in the crash.

Newburyport Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are investigating the crash.

The area of Low Street where the crash took place is heavily retail. The Port Plaza shopping center is on one side of the street, and several retailers and eateries are on the other side.
