A Boston Bruin Reminds Us Why We Should Attend UNH and Other Local College Sport Games
This is just a friendly reminder that you should take your kids (and yourself) to see the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce University, UMASS, and other local college sports games.
Former UNH Wildcat hockey player James Van Riemsdyk (JVR) just played in his 1,000th NHL game. And his 1,000th game was played as a Boston Bruin.
Less than 400 NHL players from 1917 to today have played 1,000 games.
Look how cute his family is before Daddy's 1000th game.
JVR was the second overall draft pick behind Patrick Cane in the 2007 draft. However, before starting in the NHL, he was a Wildcat between 2007 and 2009.
I do not believe I had the pleasure of seeing him when he was a Wildcat, but if I did, it would be a memory I would never forget.
Can you imagine being 10 years old and seeing a UNH hockey game and thinking, "These guys are going to go pro one day", then that day comes. 10 years later, he (or she) is playing in their 1,000th professional game.
Just like JVR.
It would be a full-circle, surreal moment.
And tickets to UNH Men's Ice Hockey games are only $27 for adults and $23 for kids. Women's Ice Hockey tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for kids.
My parents took me to minor league hockey games my whole life. They are some of my favorite memories. And yes, I still have a signed Lowell Lockmonsters jersey.
Give your kids the same memories. They will remember them for the rest of their lives. And if they do forget, when they see a name like JVR pop up on TV as he is playing his 1,000th game, your children will remember that YOU took them to see him before he was a big-shot NHL player.
