John Cena’s Dad Shares His Indisputable Thoughts on His Son’s WWE Retirement
John Cena is from West Newbury, Massachusetts. His family still lives there, and I had the opportunity to talk to his Dad, John Cena, Sr.
Johnny Fabulous, as is his stage name, has come in for interviews, which really turn into just a couple of friends talking.
After we talked about whoopie pies and limoncello, I asked him about his son and if he thinks he will really retire. Here's what he had to say:
What I really have to say is... yes. The last time you will ever see John Cena in a wresting ring is December 13 in Washington, D.C.
Many wrestlers in the past have "retired" from the ring, but then you see them come back. Is John Cena going to do the same?
I can tell you this about my son. I've had a lot of friends... there are a lot of bets out there... 'aw, he'll be like the rest of 'em, he'll be gone a year, 6 months, then make a special appearance.' I say this: I have $100 in my pocket. I'll put it up now 10:1, you'll never see John Cena in a wrestling ring ever again.
Johnny Fab, as I like to call him, also said that his son listens to his body.
He's enjoyed his run, the fans have been tremendous, but you know what, as he said: 'Dad, I can't go at the pace I used to go at and my body is saying to quit.'
The Washington D.C. WWE match is going to be huge. When the tickets went on pre-sale, Johnny Fab told me they had 45,000 requests for a 28,000-seat venue.
Whoops! They should have had this in a stadium. Maybe Gillette?
John Cena is not ruling out being somehow involved in wrestling; he is just not going to be in the ring again.
Let's not confuse this with 'I'll never be in pro-wrestling again.' What I mean by that is, you'll never see him in a ring, you won't see him referee, you won't see him make a special guest appearance, but I think because of the love that he has for this business and I have for this business, in some fashion or other, he'll still be connected to pro wrestling.
I asked Johnny Fab about his son starting a family after his last match. Here's what he said about that:
John, I don't think you'll see ever with a kid. I really don't..... My son and his wife, Shay, a wonderful woman... they're on the road so much, even with the movies, with Peacemaker that just finished up, so he's never there. He's always going, going, going, going.
The Cena family will be at his last ring appearance at the TD Garden in Boston on November 10.
