Kira & Logan Met the Man, the Myth, the Legend ‘Mr. Somersworth’
The internet has been unkind to Somersworth, NH, lately, so Logan and I set out on a mission to set the record straight. We wanted to get our boots on the ground and spend some quality time in Somersworth with some quality people. We made a call on the (un)Official City of Somersworth Facebook page asking which Somersworth celebrities we should talk to while we're there. SO many great suggestions came pouring in, and we wish we had more time to visit every single person that was suggested! I think a round two visit to the Hilltop city might be in our distant future.
Hands down the most popular nominee was Eric Mommsen. He goes by the name "Mr. Somersworth" and for good reason! He lives, breathes and bleeds Somersworth blue! Mr. Mommsen is everyone's favorite third grade teacher at Maplewood Elementary. He announces Somersworth sports, helps run the Lions club skating rink, is a historical society leader, Somersworth festival member, and so much more. He even has license plate that says “Toppers”:
Mr. Somersworth was kind enough to meet us at the Somersworth Lions club for a chat. It's a pretty awesome place:
Mr. Mommsen instills such a sense of pride in every single one of his students. He teaches that patriotism starts with pride in your country, but trickles down to your state, city, school, etc. You should proud of the groups you belong to and where you are from. To heck with "the grass is always greener", it's time that we all appreciate the grass in our own backyard.
