Leave These 10 Habits in 2019
New Year, New You! I know, I know, so cliche. But the first of the year is a great excuse to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. In order to become the best version of yourself you must ditch those habits that do not serve you. I have come up with a list of things that I wan't to stop doing in 2020. If I were a betting woman, I'd say you might be guilty of a few of these too:
"I'll call my grandma tomorrow".
Replace grandma with mom, cousin, aunt, whatever applies to you. Don't make me be morbid. The people we love might not always be around. The minute they pop into your head, let them know you are thinking about them! Not a phone person? Maybe if you have a tech-savvy granny you could shoot her a quick text. My gram cracker doesn't know how but we are working on it.
Following people on social media that make you feel bad about yourself
Are you someone who is constantly comparing yourself to other people's lives on social media? Your "friends" seem to be buying houses, having babies, getting married and you're all like "what is wrong with me? I need to be doing those things too." Stop comparing your life to someone else's highlight reel. And if you can't help yourself, hide that person from your feed. I do it ALLLL the time.
"If I take too much time off my co workers will judge me"
You get vacation days for a reason. USE THEM. Sometimes you need a break from your job so you can return recharged and ready to rumble. If you don't take time for yourself you will be burn out.
Diminishing your goals
Say them loud and proud! Do you believe in the power of words? I do! If you want your side hustle to become your full time gig, don't be afraid to put that out into the universe.
Continuing one-sided friendships
Are you always the one to reach out and make plans? Do you listen to your friend's troubles and woes and they never bother to ask how you are? That friendship sounds like a one-way street, my sister/brother. Time is the one thing we can never get back, so spend it wisely with people who deserve it.
Procrastinating when it comes to your health
I am SO guilty of this. Your annual check up, when was the last time you had one? Do you schedule regular cleanings with your dentist? I had to cancel one three months ago and have yet to reschedule. I shouldn't be so laissez-faire about my health. After all, this body is the only one I got!
Saying yes to stuff you don't want to do
Of course we all have obligations. It's part of being an adult! But if you are feeling peer pressured to go out for drinks after work when you'd rather slip into your Pj's and binge watch "The Good Place", I encourage you to live your truth.
Not getting enough sleep
I don't know about you, but the amount of sleep I get sets the tone for the kind of day I'm going to have. If you make sleep more of a priority you will notice making decisions, time management and even making smart food choices will be a whole lot easier.
Spending more time with your phone than your loved ones
We get it. You loovvveee your phone. But do you spend a solid hour of quality time with it? I'm not judging, we are all screen addicts. But your significant other might be jealous! They would probably love to spend an hour with you. The next time you two go out for a date night, try leaving the phones in the car. I know it sounds crazy but I promise you will survive. You will be surprised how good it feels to make good old fashioned conversation without any disruptions.
Spending your money on 'stuff'
You know the saying, "you can't take it with you when you go"? When you are on your death bed, you probably won't be thinking about 400 dollar purse you bought. You will be thinking about the places you've been and the people you were with. So go to the concerts, take the trips, do the things! Spend your money on experiences.
By the way, I am in no way qualified to give you life advice. These are merely my observations and things I'll be working on for my own self improvement. If they resonate with you, that's great! If not just keep doing you.
