Lobsters Might Be Tough To Catch This Summer Due To Bait Shortage

According to Boston.com, the fishing industry in Northern New England is dependent on Herring. Herring are the little fish that have been luring lobsters into their traps for hundreds of years. This year there is a massive shortage of these little fish. To give you a sense of how severe this shortage is, in 2014 Herring fishermen on the east coast brought back 200 million pounds of herring back to the docks. This year will be limited to less than a fifth of that total. YIKES!

So what does that mean for lobster lovers here in Northern New England? Will a single Lobstah Roll cost us an entire month's rent? We will have to wait and see. As for lobster fishermen, they will be able to put bait in their traps. It's just a matter of how much money they are willing to pay for the bait.
