Manhunt Continues For Suspect In Maine Deputy Sheriffs Murder
(Augusta, Maine) - A massive manhunt is underway for 29 year old John Williams for the shooting death of Somerset County Corporal Eugene Cole early Wednesday morning.
Officials say that Williams shot and killed Deputy Cole in Norridgewock, then stole his cruiser.
Williams then drove to a nearby Cumberland Farms and robbed the convenience store.
The image of Williams inside the store is from the cruiser which was found abandoned yesterday morning.
Williams had been scheduled to appear in court in Haverhill, Massachusetts yesterday after his arrest on a gun charge in March.
Local and State Police officers gathered at the Maine Medical Examiners office in Augusta yesterday to honor Cole as his body arrived.
The death is believed to be the first killing of a law enforcement officer in Maine in 30 years.
