Not very long ago, I had written an article about pickle delicacies you can find in and around New Hampshire... One of them was the pickle pizza from Marc's Pizza & Subs in Merrimack, New Hampshire.

More than just a restaurant; this community staple has been a part of people's everyday lives for over 40 years. It's the kind of place where families gather after games, where regulars are greeted by name, and where the owner pours their heart into every single order.

Now, that community is mourning an unimaginable loss...

24 hours ago, Marc Benedetti's family shared the heartbreaking news on social media that Marc had passed away following a serious setback.

In a message signed by Erica (Marc's wife), she wrote that his death was “quick and painless,” while also sharing the overwhelming grief she and her sons are now carrying as they try to process life without him.

For countless customers, Marc was the face behind a beloved local business. But to the people who knew him best, he was a husband, father, friend, and someone who spent more than four decades creating food that brought people together.

On the restaurant’s website, a simple sentence now feels even more meaningful: “With over 44 years of experience making great sandwiches, Marc will always make something you will love.”

And he truly did.

Over the years, Marc built more than a menu, he built memories. In small towns across New Hampshire, places like his become woven into everyday life. Friday night pizza runs. Quick lunches during busy workdays. Familiar conversations at the counter. Comfort food after long days.

Since the news of his passing, social media has been flooded with tributes from customers, friends, and neighbors remembering the man so many considered part of their everyday lives. One comment in particular captured the overwhelming feeling shared across the community:

“The man. The hustle. The legend.
A tribute to Marc- feeding New England for generations.
Built on hard work, long hours, and pride in every sandwich served, Marc became more than a familiar face behind the counter, he became part of the community. Through dedication, loyalty, and an unmatched work ethic, he helped feed families, create memories, and bring people together one meal at a time." Timothy said.
"His legacy isn’t just in the subs he made, but in the people he impacted along the way. A true New England original whose name, hustle, and heart will always be remembered.”

It’s difficult to measure what someone like Marc leaves behind because his impact stretched far beyond food. In a world that changes so quickly, Marc’s Pizza & Subs felt like one of those constants people believed would always be there.

The future of the restaurant remains uncertain as Erica and her family take time to grieve and determine what comes next. For now, what remains certain is the legacy Marc leaves behind: 44 years of serving dishes full of heart to his community.
