Massachusetts Woman Protests Eviction by Releasing Thousands of Angry Bees
The officers had to bee extra careful.
All puns aside, this was crazy. Rorie Woods from Hadley Massachusetts was protesting an eviction. She wasn't going to do the whole peaceful protest either. She has since been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The weapon was bees.
According to Mass Live, Deputies with the Hampden County Sheriff's department went to the $1.5 million, 10,000-square-foot home in Longmeadow, Mass to serve an eviction notice. But there were protestors. The homeowner, Alton King was not home, so officers prepared to wait. But instead of Mr. King, an SUV pulled up with a trailer and a woman got out. That would be Rorie Woods. The trailer she had was loaded with towers of beehives that she started sharking and releasing.
Hundreds of bees started to swarm and good ol' Rorie was prepared and put on a beekeeper's suit and then went back to letting out more angry bees. Officers trying to stop her were stung and some of them were allergic! They finally got Rorie to the ground and handcuffed her with protestors yelling for the police to not arrest her. According to Mass Live,
While Woods was being escorted to the cruiser, (another deputy) advised Woods that he and several officers were allergic to bees. Woods’ response, according to the report: “Oh, you’re allergic? Good.”
Some officials ended up running into the giant home to get away from the bees. Rorie was a protestor and had nothing to do with the house, but was protesting the eviction. Police officers are used to protestors and peaceful protesting is welcome. But this went way beyond peaceful. Rorie Woods was charged with multiple felony charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (the bees) and disorderly conduct. She pleaded not guilty.
