Missing UNH Student Was Not Invited to Fraternity Party

As a cause and manner of death was determined in the death of UNH student Vincenzo Lirosi in Durham Sunday the fraternity hosting a party he attended said he was not invited.

The 22-year-old from Whitman, Massachusetts was found dead in a swampy area off Coe Drive Sunday afternoon after going missing after leaving a Sigma Chi fraternity party early Saturday at apartments on Main Street they rent.

The state's Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death as drowning and the manner of death accidental. The findings were released Wednesday.

Not Invited to a Fraternity Party

In a separate statement, the fraternity's UNH chapter said that Lirosi showed up at the party and became “unruly and disturbed other attendees."  It was held to welcome home a member returning from military service.

The fraternity said he left the party without assistance.

Durham police chief Rene Kelley told Seacoast Current he could not disclose any additional information about the investigation.

The fraternity was suspended as the investigation continued which UNH Dean of Students Michael Blackman said was a "common practice."

"This decision is not the result of an investigation or a formal finding of responsibility, but it is an important step while the Durham Police Department continues its investigation,"

A family friend created a GoFundMe page to assist with the funeral costs. No services have yet been announced.
