New England Grocery Stores See Increase in Product Purchases

If you’re shopping list seems a little bit longer than normal due to the news lately, you are not alone.

A number of Seacoast grocery stores are seeing an increase in the products customers are buying due to all the news about the coronavirus.

Fosters.com is reporting that a number of stores have begun limiting items due to customers stockpiling cleaning supplies and household goods.

Some of the stores include The Market Basket on Woodbury Avenue.

Fosters.com is reporting that the grocer is limiting the amount of toilet paper and bottled water one customer can purchase. The article also says that Hannaford sent a message to customers this week saying they are closely following directives from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The store has also implemented some other changes for their own employees, including restricted travel and postponing of any large gatherings.

Hannaford Supermarkets President Mike Vail tells Fosters.com that they are focused on protecting their customers’ health as well as their own employees. He continues, “our food safety practices are exhaustive and thorough.”

Vail also says that due to the high demand for certain products, the company is looking for new sources of supplies to meet their customers’ needs

In addition, Foster’s reports that Trader Joe’s is also making some changes, including no longer offering food samples.
