New Hampshire Animal Shelters Do This
As you probably know, I adopted Marley from a local rescue group called Lucky Pup Rescue in Kennebunkport, ME. He lived with a foster family for a few weeks before coming to live with me. Not all dogs and cats are so lucky. Many end up in shelters where they are housed in cages or kennels. It's very stressful for them. So this idea is AWESOME. And I think every animal shelter in New Hampshire and Maine should follow the lead of the no-kill animal shelter right outside Chicago.
The director at the shelter says this all started when a dog they keep in the lobby started sleeping on a chair when people weren't using it. He loved it so much, they decided all the dogs deserved a chair. So they got a few more.
Then they posted this ten second video. In just a few days it raked up racked up over 15 million views on Facebook. And suddenly, a bunch of people started donating old chairs. They've gotten so many in the last week, they've even given them to a few cats.
Employees at the shelter say it's actually made a noticeable difference, and the dogs seem much more relaxed. Now the idea is spreading, and shelters across the country are thinking of doing the same thing.
I'm hopeful once the Cocheco Valley Humane Society builds their new shelter, I can organize a campaign similar to this one. Let me know if you'd like to donate a chair.
