Since I have been old enough to operate a motor vehicle I have only lived in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Both states require a yearly vehicle inspection so I have grown accustom to it and haven't questioned it much. However, I have heard rumblings that the state of New Hampshire is considering doing away with the yearly vehicle inspection requirement. This raises a few questions for me.

Is it safe to not get your vehicle inspected every year?

Well, no shade to New Hampshire, but a state thar doesn't require you to wear a seatbelt or a helmet while on a motorcycle doesn't seem to be making safety a super high priority. But with those factors aside, according to WBZ states with strict inspection laws often see fewer accidents related to mechanical failures

If you are well versed with cars then you know what to look out for on your vehicle as you put more miles on it. However, as someone who knows diddly squat about cars, I don't necessarily know what it feels like when I need new brake pads for example. I need someone to tell me that I need them.

Folks on a recent Reddit post on the New Hampshire subreddit thread were mostly in favor of getting rid of the mandatory state vehicle inspection.

Many commentors don't want to fail for tiny things, only for things that make your car truly unsafe to drive.

Also perhaps the age and mileage should be taken into account. If a car is over a certain amount of years old or has a certain amount of miles on it, perhaps then a mandatory state vehicle inspection is a smart idea.
