New Hampshire Woman Becomes First Ever to Complete the Triple Crown
Dreams Can Come True with Hard Work
Denise Stassis of New Hampshire didn’t take up hiking until she was 48 years old. She nailed the New Hampshire Triple Crown after years of hard work. I love hiking, but I don’t think I could achieve the Triple Crown. In fact, Denise Stassis is the only woman to achieve that goal. Her trail name is “Buffalo Girl” according to sectionhiker.com. She has placed her name at the top of 500 of New Hampshire peaks.
Why Hiking?
Denise says she got into hiking because it made her feel alive, got her in the best shape of her life, reduced her stress, and gave her self-confidence a real boost. I love to get out in nature and know the benefits. There is no more beautiful state to hike than New Hampshire in my opinion.
What is the Triple Crown?
New Hampshire’s Triple Crown is a goal for the true champions and top of their field in the sport of hiking. You must hike all 48 of the peaks in the White Mountains every month of the year. That’s 576 mountain peaks. If you add it up, that is 3,300 miles of hiking and some steep elevations. That feat alone is a supreme accomplishment. Then you must hit up every trail listed in the Appalachian Mountain Club’s White Mountain Guide according to sectionhiker.com. The third leg of the New Hampshire Triple Crown is to climb 500 of the tallest mountains in New Hampshire. Since the mountains are spread out all over the state and some are very remote, this is a real challenge that only 16 people have completed. Congratulations to Denise Stassis! You are an inspiration to us all!
