NH House Votes to Increase Minimum Wage for First Time in 15 Years
According to a Facebook post by the New Hampshire Democratic Party,
"All New England states except New Hampshire have taken steps to increase their minimum wages in recent years... Many of New Hampshire’s neighbors are ringing in the New Year with minimum wage increases in 2020 that will likely boost wages for many working individuals and families."
The Union Leader states that the house of representatives voted on Thursday to gradually raise the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour over the course of five years.
According to Rep. Robert “Renny” Cushing:
“There are 173,000 people in the state who make less than $15 an hour. The fight for $15 is for economic justice.”
The Union Leader maps out minimum wages in the other New England states which are significantly more that New Hampshire:
Massachusetts: $12.75
Maine: $12
Vermont: $10.96
Rhode Island: $10.50
Connecticut: $11
The paper states that Governor Chris Sununu has consistently opposed raising the minimum wage.
What do you think? Is it time we raise the state minimum wage or should it be left alone?
