NH Police Have Different Strategy For DWI Patrols This Weekend
The unofficial start of summer comes with BBQ's, the first boat ride of the season, and other outdoor activities. This Memorial Day, police are reminding the public to enjoy the holiday safely.
According to a press release, Colonel Christopher Wagner, director of the New Hampshire State Police and Lieutenant Kevin Duffy, commander of the Troop E barracks state "The New Hampshire State Police consider the detection and apprehension of impaired drivers and enforcement of the Driving While Intoxicated statutes to be a top priority,"
The DWI 'patrols' are a different strategy from the sobriety checkpoints used in the past. Police are able to be mobile, as apposed to setting up on a highway. According to an article in the Conway Daily Sun, unlike the sobriety checkpoints, no court order is needed for the extra patrols, which are being paid for with New Hampshire Highway Safety money.
In the article, Fogarty stated eight extra troopers in E alone will be assigned to this duty. "Troopers will be doing what they normally do on patrol just with a focus on finding impaired drivers."
