For some people, their jobs are more than just vocations.

Our veterans and first responders go above and beyond to keep us safe, and we want to honor them.

The Hometown Hero for October 2019 is Christina Mattiace Burchill.

She was nominated by her mother, Debbie Kinson, who wanted her to be recognized for saving lives and putting the needs of others before her own.

Before Christina enlisted in the Air Force, she was an EMT in the Lakes Region. She then, in the Air Force Reserves, trained as an aeromedical evacuation technician, and during deployment, she treated injured and sick military personnel on flights to the states.

Christina is now employed by Elliot Hospital in Manchester, works in the Emergency Department, and is enrolled as a Nursing Student at NHTI. Her husband, Neil Burchill, is in the Navy and is currently away on a year-long deployment.

Debbie said Christina and Neil have both sacrificed so much time away from each other and their families in order to serve their country.

Christina, working in the ER at Elliott Hospital, and Neil, working with patients during his deployment, both diligently put the needs of others before their own on a daily basis. She has been helping to save lives both as a civilian and in the military.

So thank you, Christina, for being a Hometown Hero.
