The Oldest Town in New Hampshire is Actually 7th Oldest in America
If you're talking about history, this city in New Hampshire deserves a whole lot more credit than it gets.
Sure everyone talks about the White Mountains, North Conway, Manchester, Concord and of course, the gorgeous coastal town of Portsmouth. While these areas are some of the most beautiful and eclectic in the state, they are not the oldest.
Are you thinking about visiting Dover, New Hampshire? There's plenty to do in this bustling city, as it's growing by leaps and bounds annually.
First settled in 1623, according to onlyinyourstate.com, this settlement became a major mill town early on as the Cocheco River runs right through the town. With the waterfalls, the power generated was perfect to establish a mill town.
It didn't stop there. Downtown Dover has flourished, with an old hotel being reimagined to an upscale apartment building, many other new housing options, and parking garages to accommodate the tourists.
What about attractions? Well, there's the beautiful river, and a dynamic Children's Museum, and one of the best candy stores in New England at Lickee's and Chewy's Candies & Creamery.
Downtown Dover also has a number of boutiques, home furnishing stores, antiques, bakeries, coffee shops, a juicery, and many fine restaurants and pubs. If you park downtown, you can walk to so many fun locations.
At Henry Law Park there are events and concerts regularly, especially in the summer.
The Woodman Museum is a place where "science, history, and art come together", and Tendercrop Farms is an original working farm filling the region with fresh, homemade foods, fruits and vegetables, as well as gifts and outdoor embellishments.
So, cross the bridge from Portsmouth to Dover for some exceptional finds in this hidden gem of a town in New Hampshire.
