It is a sad month for those who fought so hard to keep the famous Pink House around as a landmark in Newbury, Massachusetts.

Like most, I used to use the Pink House as a reference point when meeting up with friends to head to Plum Island.

Driving by the Pink House as an adult reminded me of the countless trips to Plum Island with friends...and no, we were definitely not the type to have beach fires there... not me, never.

But I am just one of likely thousands of people who cherished the Pink House for nothing more than nostalgia of the area we grew up in.

Pink House in Newbury, Massachusetts Set for Demolition:

After months of residents, and Massachusetts' Governor Maura Healey, fighting for the Pink House to remain as a landmark on Plum Island, the iconic building on Plum Island Turnpike, will be demolished later this month.

The 100-year-old house, currently owned by U.S. Fish & Wildlife / Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, was set to be demolished in around October of 2024, but the organization "Support the Pink House" slowed the process.

According to NBC10Boston, and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife, the house has materials that are harmful to human health, such as asbestos... and requires maintenance to prevent catastrophic damage."

Despite tons of public support, the house will be gone by the end of the month.
