Portsmouth Man Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting In Hampton
(Hampton, NH) - The Attorney Generals office is investigating after a Portsmouth man was shot in a confrontation with NH State Police outside the State Liquor Store on I-95 Southbound.
Officials say that 36 year old Barry Jones died of at least one gunshot wound suffered in the incident just after 12:30 Tuesday afternoon.
Police were on the lookout for Jones who was reportedly intoxicated and armed with a handgun and had stolen a neighbors truck. He was involved in a minor accident on Grafton Drive in Portsmouth and then proceeded southbound on I-95.
State Police spotted the truck at the State Liquor Store off the interstate and there was a confrontation with Jones in which he was shot. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
The Attorney Generals office is investigating, and says surveillance video from the store is being reviewed.
