A Classic Fairy Tale Comes to Life at Portsmouth’s Prescott Park This Summer
There's something special about watching live theater under an open sky.
Instead of sitting inside a movie theater, imagine spreading out a blanket, feeling the evening breeze coming off the Piscataqua River, and watching a talented cast bring a classic story to life.
That's exactly what makes the Prescott Park Arts Festival one of my favorite New Hampshire summer traditions!
This season, you can catch Rodger's & Hammerstein's Cinderella, directed by Tom Alsip. Tom is the UNH Director of the Musical Theatre Program and is back for his 5th summer in the park. He is joined by Mary Beth Marino as Choreographer and Breanne Battey, the production’s Music Director. The trio have worked on previous productions such as Legally Blonde the Musical and Disney's Freaky Friday.
According to Prescott Park Arts Festival, the production is a new adaptation that features beloved songs like "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible/It's Possible," and "Ten Minutes Ago" while offering a fresh Broadway adaptation of the timeless fairy tale.
The Festival recently shared on Facebook, "Our cast is so excited to be back for a 4 show weekend of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella... Join us this weekend... to see this amazing cast in this beautiful show!"
What I love most about experiences like this is that they create memories you simply can't get from watching television at home. Kids get to experience live performers just a few feet away, parents get an evening outdoors, and everyone shares in the magic together.
Supporting local arts is about more than buying a ticket or making a donation. It's about investing in the artists, musicians, performers, and volunteers who help make New Hampshire's communities so vibrant.
For more than 50 years, Prescott Park Arts Festival has been bringing family-friendly performances to the Seacoast, making live theater accessible in one of the most beautiful outdoor settings in the state.
If you're looking for a memorable family outing this summer, this is one tradition that's well worth adding to your calendar.
