The local country music community is mourning the loss of its longtime leader, Jimmy Woods, who passed away early on Sunday morning.

Jimmy was quite a character and passionate about supporting local musicians. He was the founder of the New Hampshire Country Music Association which was formed in 1988. He was also its President and CEO. He was the leader of Jimmy Woods and the Woodsmen, a band which released several albums and continued to perform together at various events through the years.

Jimmy owned "Jimmy's Sports Bar" in Dover, the site of countless NHCMA functions.. According to WOKQ's Don Briand, Jimmy was an "outstanding" golfer and played locally at the Cocheco Country Club. Memorials in Jimmy’s name, if desired may be made to Friends of Hyder Family Hospice House for donations. Please make checks to FHFHH. They can be mailed to the Hyder House, 285 County Farm Rd  Dover, NH  03820 or The First Tee of New Hampshire, www.thefirstteenh.org  at 22 North Road  North Hampton, NH  03862, which benefits the lives of young people through the game of golf.
