A Moving Experience: The Moving Wall Comes To Durham This Week
(Durham, NH) - The University of New Hampshire will host The Moving Wall as part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the conflict in Vietnam.
The Moving Wall is a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. I have visited the Moving Wall in past years in memory of my brother.
PJ served two tours in Vietnam and was a courier driver, delivering messages and information between bases. He told me it was just him and a guy manning a machine gun, going as fast the jeep would take them. He had a few brief encounters with enemy soldiers and lived to tell the tales.
He passed away 23 years ago this week, at the age of 45, having developed lung cancer as a result of his exposure to the chemical defoliant Agent Orange while driving through the jungles. My brother left Vietnam, but it never left him.
The Moving Wall will be located on the Great Lawn in front of Demeritt Hall Thursday through next Monday. It will be open to the public 24 hours per day starting at 1 p.m. May 4 through 8 a.m. May 8.
I will go and remember my brother.
