A buddy of mine from Danvers informed me that Hilltop Steak House was demolished yesterday. Fortunately, an adventurous Lynn photographer was able to capture the iconic restaurant on film one last time. We didn't ask how Brian Cummings got the photos but we are certainly glad he did.

It still doesn't seem real to me that Hilltop is no more. Having grown up over an hour away, I only went occasionally but each time I did it felt like an event. It was the Fenway Park of steak houses. This once glowing stretch of neon that is route one has mostly evolved into just another strip mall. With the plastic cows long ago auctioned off only the world renowned cactus remains, a reminder of what once was.

If you come away as impressed as I am by these photos (and want to see more), please drop a note to photographer Brian Cummings at his facebook page to let him know!
