The Boston Public Improvement Commission voted this morning, unanimously to change Yawkey Way at Fenway Park back to it's original name of Jersey Street.

A report from WHDH says it was back in February that the Boston Red Sox filed a petition with officials in the city to change the name of the iconic street as part of a mission to 'reinforce that Fenway Park is inclusive and welcoming to all.'

Tom Yawkey, whom the street was named after was a former owner of the Red Sox and the name of the street has been under heavy criticism throughout the years for its connection to the Yawkey's reputation for racism. Tom Yawkey died in 1976, Yawkey Way was named in 1977.
