Another one bites the dust.  This time it’s the Olympia Sports chain that appears to be going under with more than half of their stores set to close, according to a report from 7News Boston.

Olympia Sports, which was a chain of sports stores founded in Maine, is struggling.  They announced on Thursday that they will be closing 76 stores across the county with 50 of those closures coming to the New England area, the news station reported.

While 22 of those store closures will be happening in Massachusetts, stores in New Hampshire  lated to close are the locations in Epping Crossing, Stop ‘n Shop Plaza in Exeter, Wal-mart Plaza in Gilford, Meredith Shopping Center in Meredith, Fox Run Mall in Newington, Plaistow Shopping Center in Plaistow and Cheshire Marketplace in Rindge, according to WHDH.

The stores impacted by the closings with begin closing sales on Friday, the news station reported.

Sad news for those that grew up with Olympia Sports. The company, according to 7News Boston, was recently acquired by JackRabbit.

I really feel for those employees that are losing their jobs this close to the holiday season.
