This Cafe’s Restroom in Western Massachusetts Has the Most Hilarious Surprise
I spent four years of my life living in Western Massachusetts attending the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. I can't believe I never ventured an hour further West to embrace the beauty that is the Berkshires, until now! What a gorgeous region of New England.
Where exactly is the Berkshires?
Wikipedia defines the "Berkshires" as the range of hills in Massachusetts that lie between the Housatonic and Connecticut Rivers. The most common towns in the Berkshires are North Adams, Stockbridge, Pittsfield, and Great Barrington.
My husband and I currently live in New Hampshire and have family in New York and New Jersey, so Western Massachusetts is a great meeting point for us; about a three hour drive for all parties involved!
We spent this past weekend in Great Barrington and it was such charming, quintessential New England town.
It definitely feels off the beaten path if you are looking for some peace and quiet. However, there is an incredible food scene and some great shopping to be had.
We ate, drank, dipped our toesies in a waterfall, my heart was so happy.
On our way home we decided to stop for brunch at this unique spot called Pleasant and Main.
It is a cafe but also an antique shop. This place was a feast for the eyes. I could have spent four hours in there and still wouldn't feel like I got to see everything.
The food was incredible:
but the highlight of the meal (and quite possibly the entire weekend) was my experience in the bathroom.
*SPOILER ALERT* if you ever plan to dine at Pleasant and Main, you'll want to experience this for yourself. But if you don't like surprises or don't think you'll make it for a visit, I will share the bathroom secret with you.
.....you're still here? OKAY GREAT!
If you use the bathroom that is straight back at the end of the hall (not the one on the right) You will notice a painting of the Michelangelo statue David.
As I'm sure you know, David is completely in his birthday suit.
In the painting hanging in the bathroom, there is a box over David's *ahem* manhood, that is labeled "private".
If you are a curious cat and you open it you will then see a fig leaf. At that point you are invested and will need to lift up the fig leaf. When you do, there lies exactly what you expect, the part of David's anatomy that was being censored.
But here's the kicker: When you lift the fig leaf an alarm sounds in the dining room alerting everyone in the restaurant that you are a peeker. When I did it (because of course I did) I heard an uproar of laughter from the dining room which really added to my experience.
This is the dining room which is very classy and makes the whole thing even more hilarious:
Then as I did the walk of shame back to my table, a woman shouted at me "naughty, naughty" to which I replied, "I WAS CURIOUS!!!"
So there you have it. I don't think I have ever said that using a public restroom was the highlight of my weekend but in this case, it really was.
