This New England High School Just Missed the Top 25 Best US Schools List at No. 26

Parents, it's that time of year to apply to colleges for high school seniors. Does it really matter which school you attend for high school?  Some say yes, because not all high schools are created equal.

According to U.S.News & World Report, the magazine released rankings for public high schools across the country.  New England states didn't do as well compared to other states, with only one school in Massachusetts making it just outside the top 25 list.

How High Schools Are Ranked

Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation, and how well they prepare students for college.  You can read more about the percentage breakdown in the report here.

So how did New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts do?  Let's look at each state. U.S New & World Report breaks down the top public high schools as follows:

Massachusetts

1. Boston Latin School  (ranked #26 overall, and #1 in MA)
2. Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School, Marlborough
3. Sturgis Charter Public School, Hyannis
4. Lexington High School
5. John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science, Boston
6. Boston Latin Academy
7. Dover-Sherborn Regional High School, Dover
8. Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, Malden
