Boston Is Getting a Boozy Ice Cream Shop Where Happy Hour Meets Dessert
As someone who firmly believes ice cream is acceptable in every season, I didn't think one of my favorite desserts could get much more exciting. Apparently, I was wrong.
Word on the street: Boston "Barlour" is about to take frozen treats to the next level with the arrival of Tipsy Scoop, a one-of-a-kind concept that combines the joy of an ice cream shop with flavors inspired by your favorite cocktails.

Think happy hour meets dessert, and honestly, I'm wondering why no one thought of this sooner.
Not too long ago, I wrote an article on soft serve margaritas becoming one of the hottest viral food trends. So, it doesn't surprise me to see someone kicking things up another notch and opening an entire shop dedicated to boozy ice cream. It feels like the natural evolution of the trend, and as an ice cream lover, I'm fully on board.
The New York-based company is bringing its first Massachusetts location to Boston, offering adults a fun and creative way to indulge their sweet tooth. And as a mom to an almost 2-year-old, I have to admit this sounds like the perfect excuse for a much-needed moms' night out.
But what I love most about Tipsy Scoop is that the company isn't just serving up creative frozen treats. Behind the boozy scoops is a family story that spans generations.
Founder Melissa Tavss comes from a long line of ice cream makers dating back to her great-great-great-grandfather, Achille, who left Italy and moved to Scotland, selling homemade ice cream from a pushcart before eventually opening his own shop. The family tradition was carried on through several generations, with relatives opening stores throughout Scotland and England.
Eventually, Tavss decided to put her own spin on the family business.
As she explains on the company's website, "Following in the ice cream tradition, I began to experiment with putting a modern boozy twist on ice cream. I wanted to combine the best of both worlds and infuse traditional ice cream flavors with different liquors."
After years of perfecting the recipes, she says she created "creamy, tipsy and delicious treats!" and, fittingly, launched what she calls "in the family tradition, Tipsy Scoop."

As for when you can grab a boozy scoop for yourself, the company says, "Opening date and location to be announced soon!" The future storefront will be located at 59 Dartmouth Street in Boston.
But for now, Bostonians don't have to wait to get a taste. In the meantime, Tipsy Scoop is offering catering and delivery services throughout the city.
