Think about that for a moment: ten years ago today there was literally one video on YouTube. How is that possible?

Sometimes it's easy to forget that the internet as we know it is still fairly new, so learning that something as ubiquitous as YouTube has only just now reached its tenth birthday is a little unsettling. Shouldn't it be significantly older than a fourth grader?

According to YouTube, 300 hours of news video is uploaded every minute. That's twelve and half straight days of (mostly cat) videos every minute after having just a single eighteen second video ten years ago today. The best part? According to wikipedia, the lack of Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction videos online following the 2004 Super Bowl Halftime show inspired co-founder Jawed Karim to create the site.

The video in which he appears, however, would seem to be more prescient of what would account for the majority of YouTube growth: an innocuous :18 second video of a day at a the zoo. Harder to fathom is that CelebrityWorth.net says this guy is worth over $140M now. I need to go to the zoo more often.
