Tom Brady in Hot Water Over Lombardi Trophy Boat Toss

I’m sure by now most of you have seen the clip of Tom Brady tossing the Lombardi Trophy off a boat into the arms of Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cameron Brate according to ftw.usatoday.com.  Thankfully, Brate caught the trophy but Brady tossing the treasured trophy was a bit of shock for a guy known for his strait-laced behavior.  The toss was also a reminder that women are smarter than men because Brady’s daughter can be heard yelling “Noooo!” right before the toss according to ftw.usatoday.com.

If I won the Lombardi trophy, I don’t think I would chance tossing it from one boat to another, then again, as with most of life’s poor choices, alcohol was involved.  Did you see the follow-up video of a purported drunk Tom Brady being helped off the boat?  I guess when you win your 7^th Super Bowl, you can get hammered.  Maybe after winning seven Super Bowls the trophy doesn’t seem like a big deal.

But it is a big deal to someone.  Lorriane Grohs, daughter of the creator of the first Lombardi Trophy, wants an apology from Brady for the disrespectful way he treated the iconic treasure.  For the record, the Lombardi Trophy that Tom tossed off the boat is not the same one that Lorriane Groh’s father crafted.  A new one is made every year.  But I think Lorraine’s point is that the silversmith’s work is a work of art that the silversmith’s take great pride in.  I suppose we wouldn’t want to see anyone throw a Van Gogh painting from one boat to another, even if we trusted the guy that threw the painting and the one that caught it.
