When I first read Henry David Thoreau's Walden Pond in high school, I conjured up images of lazy summer days spent fishing, contemplating life's mysteries. Never did I imagine anyone paddle boarding. But that's exactly what was happening on Sunday. And thankfully so.

WCVB TV in Boston says 9-year-old Herman Tsakhaev, of Sudbury, and his buddy, 11-year-old Bodie Thompson, of Lincoln were paddling around when they spotted a man struggling in the water. The two boys made a beeline for the man and pulled him up on one of their boards, and headed to shore. Back on land, a rescue team was standing by.

According to WCVB, Concord Fire Capt. Bill Noke says the swimmer had a leg cramp and might have drowned had the boys not rescued him.
