Fire officials say the two men were aboard a Piper PA-28 that had made a touch-and-go at the Hampton Airfield around 9:15 Sunday morning. The plane crashed into a stand of trees off Cedar Road, a short distance away from the airfield.

The two men were able to escape from the wreckage, with one suffering burns to 10 per cent of his upper body from a small fire that broke out after the crash.

Both men were taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and one was later transferred to Boston for treatment of his burns.

The names of the two men have not been released.

The plane is registered to a Biddeford, Maine resident.
